Gifting an Automobile to a Disabled Veteran

Upper Nyack, NY, May 8, 2025 — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9215 Upper Nyack, NY is proud to announce that in collaboration with Rockland County Veterans Services Agency and BRIDGES Veterans: PFC Dwyer Peer Support Program are sponsoring the vehicle gifting to a disabled veteran.

Guy Gebbia, former Commander of the VFW Post 9215 stated, “Together we bring a much-needed vehicle to a needy, worthy and deserving veteran. The auto will significantly improve the quality of Herman’s life. This exemplifies the motto of the VFW. “Honor the Dead by Helping the Living”. It is an honor for us to be able to provide reliable transportation to veterans and families that needs access to get to a job, a doctor’s appointment, food shopping or other places they couldn’t go without a reliable vehicle.”

Susan Branam – Director of the Rockland County Veterans Services, states “This is such an incredible program that does wonderful things for veterans. I am always astonished at the generosity, hard work, and sincere concern for the welfare of veterans shown by the VFW, program director Guy Gebbia, and the entire Rockland County community, working together to give a Veteran a hand up when he or she needs it most. This program has helped so many veterans and is such an asset to our community! I know that they will continue to do great things in the future”.

Marc Carlo – Director of Veterans Services: PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program states “Herman is a great person of strong character. Since he started attended Dwyer events Herman has become a staple within the community, Always looking to help his fellow veterans. He is dependable and worked hard for many years. I am happy to know that he will be receiving life changing help from the VFW 9215 and the Recycled Rides Program. Thank you to everyone that made this happen for Herman”.

Herman Rollins is the recipient of this year’s automobile. Herman is a disabled veteran, who serviced in the U.S. Marine Corps for 4 years as an infantryman, 0311, reaching the rank E4 Corporal 1976-1980. He served at Camp Pendleton for his training, and after that he was stationed in Okinawa aka “The Walking Dead”. Herman was honorably discharged and went to work cooking at West Point for over 24 years making meals for over 4000 cadet’s 3 times a day. He was a single father of two children and has 12 beautiful grandchildren. Herman Stated “Having a reliable source of transport would change my life for the better and make it possible to attend my appointments and grant the freedom needed in everyday life. I can’t appreciate it enough.”

The gifting ceremony will take place at the VFW Post 9215 250 Birchwood Ave, Upper Nyack, NY 10960 on May 22, 2025 at 11:30am.
