The VFW seal, the insignia of our organization is 1,000 years old. When a person joins the Veterans of Foreign Wars they vow “in the presence of Almighty God and the members of this Order” to maintain loyalty to the government, to the VFW, and to their fellow comrades.
When the new member is given the Cross of Malta they become part of a great brotherhood of overseas veterans. They pledge to keep on crusading with them for the freedom of mankind during the years of peace as well as in war. Men and women qualified to wear the VFW emblem have earned it honestly, and they wear it proudly.
The VFW Logo Same Proud History. Same Strong Commitment. Bold New Look. This logo includes an artistic representation of service stripes, easily recognizable insignia indicative of military service. Worn on most service uniforms, they denote length of service. As such, the first and leaner of the two service stripes represents our steadfast entry into our second century of service to America’s veterans, service members and their families. The second, broader stripe represents our first storied century of service, spanning back to 1899.
The VFW mission is to “honor the dead by helping the living” through veterans’ service, community service, national security and a strong national defense. The Willis Polhemus Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9215 Upper Nyack, NY is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of United States military veterans, their families, and our local community. Our mission in life is to support those who have sacrificed so much for this country, whether they be former active-duty military veterans, those presently honorably serving in our Armed Forces, and/or our veteran reserve forces and National Guard. We also include all of our veteran’s families in this process. We do this through community service, a commitment to national security, and total dedication toward a strong national defense. We constantly strive to preserve and strengthen camaraderie among VFW members; to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead, and to assist all of their widows, widowers and orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the government of the United States of America and fidelity to its Constitution and laws; to foster true patriotism to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom; and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies, whomever and wherever they may be.
Ensure that veterans are respected for their service, always receive their earned entitlements, and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this great country.
